5 speedy spring clean tips

The snow is almost gone, and spring just around the corner.  What a wonderful time of year it is – a season for spending quality time…. yes you guessed it – spring cleaning! Generally, this is a great idea, but sometimes in our busy day to day routines, we just need a quick fix – an easy speed clean to get the job done before that company arrives.

With that in mind, we’ve put together five handy tips for a super fast speed clean…

1. Target the clutter

If you have newspapers, mail, magazines or other items occupying your coffee tables or counter space, you’d be surprised at how much impact removing/storing them can have. Targeting the areas with the most clutter can be most effective for a quick fix.

2. Candles are your best friend

Have a couple of candles lying around from the holidays? Light your candles! Not only do candles enhance the ambiance of your home and will help to create a cozy atmosphere for you and your guests, but those handy candles are great at distracting from unpleasant smells… pets, or even some aging leftovers in the fridge.

3. Focus on high-traffic areas

Focus solely on cleaning the rooms that your guests will definitely see; the entrance, kitchen, living room and bathrooms, etc. Don’t worry about spending time straightening out rooms that your guests are not going to set foot in.

4. Tackle the toys

If you have young children, it is fair to say that there are going to be some toys around the house that they love to play with. As much as the little ones love them, by putting the toys aside in a Tupperware container to store away for the night or condensing all of the toys into just one play area will help to make your home feel open, airy and neat.

5. Give a warm greeting

Although this sounds like a no-brainer, but the reality is that it’s easy to get caught up in a variety of hostess tasks once that doorbell starts ringing. So, when someone arrives, make a point to greet them warmly. As simple as not leaving your guests guessing what to do with their coats and purses, and offering to take these items to a closet or bedroom, can make your guests feel instantly welcome and at ease. When your guests feel welcome and at home, odds are they are not going to be noticing the little things like a few crumbs on the kitchen counter.
