8 Things to Look for When you Buy
Looking for a home can be an exciting experience. Don't forget to focus on items of the home that are crucial to your enjoyment and satisfaction. When you are seriosly considering purchasing a home take note of the following items:
- The room measurements on the information sheet can be an approximation or may have errors, if the exact size is needed for furniture or carpeting take your own measurements.
- Storage. Many of these compact homes are lacking a place for your bike, closet space, or linens. If you are moving from a home with large closets and a shed, make sure your new house is able to store an equivalent amount of belongings.
- Test light fixtures, turn taps on on, check for hot water, flush toilets, try the air conditioning and all major appliances.
- Water damage. Look at drywall and ceilings for stains and buldges. A leaky roof can rot wood and create mildew.
- Foundation. Look at the foundation for cracks, hariline cracks are common, look for wide or deep cracking or softening.
- Check windows and doos to make sure they are a tight fight and operate properly. Check for screens and security. Look for flaking paint and feel for drafts.
- If there is secondary accomodation it may not be a registered suite.
- Is the bathroom ventilated? Does the oven vent lead to the exterior or come back into the home?
